Safety, feasibility, and preliminary clinical outcomes of psilocybin-assisted therapy for veterans with severe, treatment-resistant PTSD: an open-label pilot clinical trial

A first-of-its-kind pilot study in U.S. military veterans with severe, treatment-resistant PTSD has produced striking—but highly preliminary—results. Twelve veterans underwent psychotherapy surrounding two psilocybin sessions, first 15 mg and later 25 mg. One month after treatment, clinician-rated PTSD severity had fallen dramatically and nine of twelve participants met criteria for remission. No serious adverse events or increase in suicidality occurred. The numbers should not be treated as an efficacy rate—this was a tiny open-label study with no placebo arm and a substantial psychotherapy component—but the signal is strong enough to justify a much larger randomized controlled trial. �
