What class of drug is DMT primarily known as?

Psychedelic tryptamines are a class of compounds built on the tryptamine molecular skeleton (an indole ring attached to an ethylamine side chain). Many of them act as agonists at the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor and produce classic psychedelic effects—altered perception, intense visual imagery, changes in thought and emotion, and shifts in the sense of self.
