Finally got some Cayenne pepper seedlings taking off! Done with Fox Farm Oceanforest soil with a guarantee of growth. Once these seedlings grow out of the red cups I’ll be transplanting them to 5 gallon or the 7gallon Walmart reusable grow bags. Moral of the story though. Never use cheap potting soil for starting any plant out. Use the real good stuff for root development and water it well. Then once it grows out of its first container with developed roots transplant it using any old potting soil that drains well, Miracle Grow, Walmart, Home Depot and Lowe’s brands work well for developed plants. But for starting a seedling out Fox Farm is by far superior!

    Agreed, I just got into gardening myself and the best things are those green cubes or the compostable baby pots. Substrate depending on; but I hear there is soil specific for seedlings. I have a few pot seeds germinating, going to use a coir/verm/perlite mix to start them and transplant into these buildable pots that I got on Amazon, drain holes everywhere.

    I have used those compostable cubes! They work great but it’s extra work for me when I transfer it to a red cup. I decided to do the paper towel germination method with direct transplant into the red cups. By far it is doing well! I know this plant is going to take time but I live in the best part of the US. I can garden all year round including growing bud outside that I can have a harvest at anytime of the year! Southern California doesn’t get 4 seasons, just Mediterranean or desert climate if more inland. Next time I go to depot I’ll make things easier for me. Basil and Oregano I’ll buy already developed. The seeds for my cayenne pepper are heirloom seeds and I want to have the hottest variety. I do use it for dietary purposes and is a spice. I also love eating a fresh pepper off the vine! The hotter the better!
